Lots’ Dilemmas

 Introducing Lot

Lot is someone who had every opportunity because of his Uncle Abrahams Care and Intercession and yet his foolish choices, he had dilemma after dilemma.

Genesis 13:  7Lot, who was traveling with Abram, was also rich in sheep and cattle and tents. But the land couldn’t support both of them; they had too many possessions. They couldn’t both live there—quarrels broke out between Abram’s shepherds and Lot’s shepherds. The Canaanites and Perizzites were also living on the land at the time.

8-9 Abram said to Lot, “Let’s not have fighting between us, between your shepherds and my shepherds. After all, we’re family. Look around. Isn’t there plenty of land out there? Let’s separate. If you go left, I’ll go right; if you go right, I’ll go left.”

10-11 Lot looked. He saw the whole plain of the Jordan spread out, well watered (this was before God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah), like God’s garden, like Egypt, and stretching all the way to Zoar. Lot took the whole plain of the Jordan. Lot set out to the east.

As Abram travelled both he and his nephew, Lot became very rich. The blessing that was on Abram flowed over to Lot. If we stay around the people of God we will be blessed by association.

RIGHT CHOICES?

In time however when the herdsmen disagreed over the land, rather than argue Abram gave Lot a choice. How important it is to make the right choices.

Should our choices in life be based only on money?

Lot looked around and chose the green rich area for his cattle and left Abram with the plain.

Danger signs, He was looking from a selfish point of view.

He also was camping near Sodom but he did not care as long as he got richer. He overlooked the situation in Sodom.

Genesis 13:11So Lot chose for himself the whole plain of the Jordan and set out toward the east. The two men parted company: 12Abram lived in the land of Canaan, while Lot lived among the cities of the plain and pitched his tents near Sodom. 13Now the people of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Did God bring Abram Lot and their families out of Ur (which was known as a wicked city) to become part of another? The answer is obvious.

Genesis 13:14After Lot separated from him, God said to Abram, “Open your eyes, look around. Look north, south, east, and west. Everything you see, the whole land spread out before you, I will give to you and your children forever.
